Who They Are
Grazing Meadows Wagyu is a family-run farm located near Brussels in Huron East, Ontario. It’s operated by Tim and Donna Prior, along with their family, who have lived and worked on the land for decades. The Priors took ownership of the 100-acre farm in the 1990s and gradually built it into a recognized grazing and Wagyu cattle operation. Tim wasn’t born into farming but discovered his passion through practical experience and agricultural education, eventually making the farm his life’s work
What They Do
Raising Fullblood Wagyu Cattle: They focus on breeding and raising purebred Wagyu—a Japanese beef cattle breed prized for intense marbling and tenderness. Their herd includes registered animals with strong genetic lines.
Grass-Based Grazing Systems: Cattle are primarily pasture-raised on lush Ontario grass during spring, summer, and fall. In winter, they are fed grass hay and minimal grain to maintain a natural diet.
Rotational Grazing: Using controlled rotational grazing principles, they move cattle across paddocks to promote soil health, optimize forage use, and enhance pasture productivity.
Demonstration and Education: The farm serves as a demo site for effective rotational grazing and pasture management techniques. The Priors host annual pasture “Walk and Talk” events for farmers interested in learning grazing strategies and equipment.
Animal Welfare and Traceability: Their cattle are managed with care, including systems to track each animal’s life events from birth to harvest
What Makes Them Special
Premium Beef Quality: Wagyu beef is globally renowned for its superior marbling, tenderness, and rich flavour — a result of careful genetics, natural feeding, and attentive husbandry.
Sustainable Grazing and Land Stewardship: The Priors prioritize environmental sustainability, using grazing methods that improve soil health, boost pasture resilience, and mimic natural herd movements.
Community and Industry Leadership: Their farm isn’t just production-oriented — it’s also a resource for other producers. They openly share knowledge, host events, and demonstrate innovative practices like virtual fencing to streamline grazing.
Focus on Animal Comfort: Investments like a newly designed low-stress cattle barn underscore the farm’s commitment to animal welfare and operational efficiency
